| Grandma Pops Pills |
[Dec. 23rd, 2009|02:29 pm] |

Does anyone have a (um, living) grandma who doesn’t?
Grandparents have the best stuff: most notably those gnarly pill cases with the days of the week written on them. More than once, I’ve secretly yearned for a pill case of my own. I’d have to paint it purple so people would say, “How alternative!” instead of “How pathetic!”
I’d also like blue hair.
You know what? Forget grandmas. This picture is pretty much about the ideal me. |

| Never leave me a voicemail, I won't listen to it. |

One thing that really annoys me is voicemail. I grew up in the age of having an actual machine to take your voicemail on your home phone (what are those again?) but that's been pretty much obsolete for years now. Same thing goes for automated voicemail, partially due to my own laziness and partially due to the fact that no system I've encountered is user-friendly and efficient.
In summary: text messages >>>>>>>> voice messages.
I also dislike voicemail because some people are scared shitless to actually leave me a message. It sucks when I finally get around to checking that stupid thing and I have "Two. New Messages." and both are the click of someone hanging up. Thanks for listening to my entire greeting and deciding after the beep that you don't really have anything to say after all, (416) 462-1650. |

Santa has been spotted in the village, hanging around with a bunch of elves. The kids last day of school before winter break is tomorrow, and its a short one. I’ll be spending that time arranging our yearly dvd of photos from the year, so much fun to watch on New Years eve :) :) |

| Thread Wrapped Elf |

On Tom’s last day off we had a lovely afternoon alone shopping at Flea markets, when I came across the sweetest little ornament (last one pictured above) for .35cents! I love the way the little elf was made so simply from pipe cleaners and embroidery floss and wanted to try and make my own.
It was really simple and I didn’t feel like I needed to make a real tutorial, but if you guys want one I can. I just shaped the body with pipe cleaners, then used my glue gun and embroidery floss/bakers twine to wrap his shirt and pants. I secured the ends around back with a dab of the glue gun.
I then cut a little collar from felt with a slit in the middle so it slid down over his neck. Then more glue on his neck and his bead head was added. Then I made a cone hat from felt (and the glue gun) and sewed a little bell on top. His little sign is just construction paper and a toothpick. I had so much fun making him and it really took less then ten minutes!
The kids and I are going to make more tonight, and add strings to them so they are ornaments we can add to the tops of the gifts we are giving. I think they would also make great pins for wearing, ornaments, or cupcake toppers if you used bamboo skewers glued to their bum area (so their legs wouldn’t get down in the frosting). I am going to try and make a Santa this way (with a bigger belly, and beard) and a Mrs. Claus too. I’ll report back tomorrow! |

SO AWESOME, you guys! I slept on it to decide which one, and it was really tough. I decided to go with Paul's version (which you can now see at the bottom of the page, only I moved the snowman over some!) but it was hard to decide. Thank you all again! I am really grateful for each of you who sent something in, and I know how lucky I am as a non-artist that I can ask people for design elements and they just show up with awesome awesome things. | Latest Book Cover |
[Dec. 22nd, 2009|09:01 am] |
This is the latest cover design I have done for Immanion Press http://www.immanion-press.com The artwork and my layout for it are under the cut. The Janus House And Other Two-Faced Tales is a short story collection by David Barnett, author of Hinterland and Angelglass. So far I have only read The Janus House (I am going to read the rest from my artist's copy of the book because its easier than reading it as a word document). Anyway, I hope you enjoy the art - I can certainly recommend the Janus House story, David is a very accomplished author and it is the sort of atmospheric and slightly ambiguous horror I love - I usually find a good spooky story needs a little mystery and uncertainty to work well and this one has both. | 18 months AKA 1.5 years |
[Dec. 21st, 2009|11:16 pm] |
I'm having problems with either my camera or with my rechargeable batteries. I put freshly charged batteries in and after only a few shots, I'm told they are dead. SUPER ANNOYING. I REALLY HOPE I get a whole bunch on new ones from Santa. All that to say that there were a lot of cute moments that I didn't get to shoot this month so I have hardly any photos to show you. - When he finds something funny, he yells “FUNNY!” and laughs (or not)
- When he runs around he says "RUNNING!" while he does it
- He wants both dogs to sit in the sofa chair with us at story time
- He sings along and does the actions to his favorite songs
- Can count to ten (you say one number, he says the next)
- Is an expert at using a spoon, and therefor only wants to use a fork... at which he is moderate. Thank god he doesn’t want a knife!
- Tries to dress/undress himself
- Lays down in the bathtub and kicks violently to splash me
- I left him naked in his room while I ran his bath and came back to him sitting in his man-chair reading a book with a giant turd in the middle of the floor.
- Can ‘read’ some of his books to you accurately
- Likes to do silly things to make people laugh
- Will lay down on anything squishy
- Refers to himself in the 3rd person
- Lip Synchs to songs when he isn’t sure of the words
- Knows when to say ‘please’ and ‘sorry’
- calls me out on my farts
- feeds the dogs (all over the floor)
- flushes the toilet (while I'm still peeing)
- tells the christmas tree and the candle that he loves them (but not his parent's... typical)
- is REALLY into Santa and I have NO IDEA how that happened.
Focused Making a birthday card... luckily it washes off... Sick day means dragon robe and no pants Taking a nap In this short film you will be wowed by Bobby's talking skills of about 3 weeks ago. He's much better/clearer now. He's playing with a car air freshening fan... Let me know if you need a transcript. SOmetimes I worry I can understand him only because I'm his mom. On this day: In 2008 - Bobby had Conan hair In 2007 - that was probably the last time I had chinese food... will do again when Brent is out of town next month (he's not a fan) In 2006 - venus rhymes with penis (unrelated to the posts linked here) In 2005 - I found some more last year and it was NOT GOOD. Unfortunately I dont remember the brand I got the first time. In 2004 - worst. popcorn. ever. |
